PROVIDING COMMERCIAL HEAT AS-A-SERVICE

OakTREE is pioneering a new kind of thermal energy economy. One where businesses can decarbonize without the burden of upfront costs, and where the revenue generated helps grow community-powered infrastructure across the country.

Through our thermal micro-utility model, we install renewable heat systems at no cost to commercial businesses. Instead of selling equipment, we sell what actually matters: clean, affordable, reliable heat. This heat-as-a-service (HaaS) approach lowers both costs and emissions while generating steady revenue that flows back into our larger work of advancing and scaling OakTREE in neighborhoods and cities, from Oakland to everywhere communities are ready.

The HaaS model is possible through OakTREE’s partnership with MMCISolar, a company founded by Mark Miles that gives us access to a portfolio of patents and emerging renewable thermal technologies. Chief among them is AirPaneX, a breakthrough rooftop panel array that cost-effectively harvests solar heat using abundant, recyclable materials. This dramatically reduces manufacturing costs. What’s more, AirPaneX’s projected levelized cost of heating and cooling is at least 20% lower than commercial heat pumps or natural gas appliances.

When hybridized with an air-source heat pump, AirPaneX raises the heat pump’s yearly input temperature for heating and lowers it for cooling, improving its seasonal performance factor and making the entire system even more efficient and cost-effective.

The result? Businesses get access to affordable clean heat and cooling. Communities get the foundation for economic power. And we all get a little closer to the people-powered energy future we need.
